It was the day the men had been eagerly anticipating. For months they had been getting ready for this very day. Ed McCully, Roger Youderian, Nate Saint, Pete Fleming, and Jim Elliot were on the beach. Some were sitting down in the cooking shelter; others were down by the water calling Auca phrases into the dense jungle.
Out of the jungle there came a reply, then three figures emerged from the darkness. A man, an older woman, and a younger woman. The five missionaries were overjoyed, they had finally made contact with the stone age tribe called Auca.
The day was full of things to do. The man and women played with yoyo's, and magazines, and tasted hamburgers. "George" (the man) went for a ride in Nate's yellow Piper plane. All in all, the day was a success.
The visitors Stayed all day. When the time came to go to bed the man and younger woman ran off into the jungle, but the older woman stayed almost all night by the fire.

"It's been two days since we had any activity. If they don't come soon, I'm going out to their villiage." Jim said, impatiently.
Just then, Nate, who was scouting in the plane, saw something. It was a group of men with spears. "They're on their way!" he radioed those on the ground.
It was early afternoon when the new visitors arrived at "Palm Beach." Jim went out to greet them, "Puinani! Puinani!"
But they weren't very friendly this time. One after the other, the five missionaries were speared to death.
