We are the Body

“The church is strongest when the lights are off in the building and no cars are in the parking lot.”

To me, the concept of the church being strongest when no one is at the church building, implies that the church itself is in the community, serving those in need, and being Jesus to the lost and hurting. When no one is at the building worshiping God as the body of Christ, they are out in the world, living their lives on mission as the hands and feet of Christ.

This week, my professor shared the "5 Values of the Church."

  1. Grace - Grace comes down to us. Everything we do for the Lord is because He first loved us.
  2. Worship - Our obedience in everything we do in honor to the Lord, as well as worship services.
  3. Community - Supporting each other.
  4. Mission - Who are we and where are we going? We are here in our communities on a mission.
  5. Integrity - Your own heart.

Ephesians 4:11 - To prepare God's people for works of service, so the body of Christ is built up together.

When we fully understand grace, we're gonna be gracious.
When we fully understand what Jesus has done for us, we're gonna want to share that with those in our communities and those in all nations.
“Forgive me for being so ordinary while claiming to know so extraordinary a God.” -Jim Elliot

I Corinthians 12:27
All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

We, as the body of Christ, are called to something so much more than just Sunday services. We are called to be disciple-makers. We are called to
"speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute" (Proverbs 31:8). We are called to live our daily lives on mission for His glory in the nations.

It's crowded in worship today
As she slips in trying to fade into the faces
The girl's teasing laughter is carrying farther than they know
Farther than they know

But if we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching?
Why aren't His hands healing?
Why aren't His words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going?
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?
There is a way

A traveler is far away from home
He sheds his coat and quietly sinks into the back row
The weight of their judgmental glances
Tells him that his chances are better out on the road

Jesus payed much too high a price
For us to pick and choose who should come
And we are the body of Christ

Jesus is the way

Let all the Earth Rejoice,
